Compared with ordinary step type fibers, specially designed microstructured fibers can have excellent characteristics such as ultra-low loss, better optical modes, hydrogen corrosion resistance, and the use of a single material (pure quartz, undoped), which can greatly improve the sensing sensitivity, system stability, measurement space accuracy, and fiber service life of distributed fiber sensing systems. The fiber structure and parameters can be customized for production.
