The core component of a filter is a fiber Bragg grating with a periodic change in refractive index. When a broad-spectrum beam of light is propagated to a fiber Bragg grating, each small section of the fiber after the refractive index is changed will only reflect a specific wavelength of light, which is called the Bragg wavelength, while other wavelengths of light will be propagated. The change in strain will simultaneously affect the effective refractive index and grating period of the fiber Bragg grating, thus changing the wavelength of the reflected light wave from the grating.
